I love playing pretty much any sports. I love being active. I love candy, my favorite kind are gummies (i.e. sour patch watermelons, gummy hamburgers, peachies) anything like that is amazing. I enjoy watching movies, hanging out with my wife, which we have been married about 1 and 1/2 years, and hanging out with our dog. I work at Enterprise Rent-A-Car and the Logan River Golf Course when I am not completely busy with the Basketball schedule.
As you can probably tell, my favorite class growing up was always P.E.. Another reason why I would love to be a teacher is because of the hours. I would love to be a family man and be able to spent a lot of quality time with my family. Between the two of those reasons, I think it sums up my reason for becoming a P.E. teacher.
My current definition of Literacy is not only being able to read and write, but also being able to understand. I think we use literacy in many different ways every day of our lives. However, I do not feel like literacy really relates to my content area of P.E..
Thanks for your posting, and congratulations on your recent marriage. Did I tell you in class that my brother is six foot ten and my dad is six foot eight? So I grew up in a "basketball family," and it is definitely my favorite sport. Gummies (and candy hearts) are my favorites too. I like the pure unadulterated sugar and high fructose corn syrup, I guess. :)
ReplyDeleteI do think "literacy" in PE is definitely different than in other content areas. You do have to teach vocabulary, for example, because even sports have their own technical terms that you have to understand if you are going to play the sport well. But you typically teach about that through demonstrations and verbal explanations rather than written texts. The application component (being able to PLAY soccer rather than talk about soccer) is also huge.
